If you’re ready to head to warmer climes for much needed thawing, consider Francis Ford Coppola’s Blancaneaux Lodge in Belize. Set in the Pine Mountain Reserve two hours from Belize City, Blancaneaux is a luxurious jungle retreat from crowded beaches and tourist traps.
During your stay, you will occupy your own private cabana or villa perched on a scenic hillside overlooking the flowing Privassion River. A central lodge features a gorgeous wooden bar area and an indoor/outdoor restaurant that serves a variety of dishes all prepared with superfresh ingredients harvested on-site.
There is plenty to do and see during your stay. Each evening, an activities director is available to coordinate the next day’s excursions. Popular day trips include an exploration of the largest Mayan ruin site in Belize, Caracol, a canoe journey into a local cave system, and a trek through the rainforest on horseback.
For those of you who require some beach time or diving excursions, Coppola also has a resort called Turtle Inn that is located on a peninsula at the southern end of Belize. The staff will happily arrange for a car or plane transfer to take you on your way.
